When it come comes to entertainment by
Kenya’s main Tv broadcasting stations, two things stand out the most, the “must” scheduling of Telenovelas on the
evening and day time shows and the Spanish, Mexican and Philippine soaps that
are a must –show on Kenyan Tvs. From the early 200’s Tv stations have consistently
made sure that their ratings are top notch, thriving on Kenyans love for Telenovelas.
One of the all time popular Telenovela
that caught the attention of many Kenyans in households with TVs then was IN
THE NAME OF LOVE a telenovela that
premiered its first season in 2008. Tells the
story of two sisters ,Carlota and Marcarena who must pay the price dearly after falling for one man
,with pain ,loneliness ,resentment and it's consequences in their autumn years.
Another very popular
back in the day way STORM OVER PARADISE which tells the story of two young
lovers, imar and Nicholas who fall in love with one another after meeting in an
island , but their love is tasted with undeniable hurdles ,inflicted with a
black Pearl as a result of their parents mistakes.
SECRETO DI AMOR also
made its most successful debut on Kenyan TVs and Kenyans did absolutely watch
it with religious piousness. The question therefore is why do Kenyans really
have this very deep sentimental attachment for Mexican soaps?
It is also worth noting
that over the years Kenyans have also been actively been involved in local
production of Telenovelas based on African stories such as SELINA which have
not had much success compared to the Mexican soaps which tells a lot about the
social and psychological fabric of the Kenyan people in general.
