QUIT GETTING IN YOUR OWN WAY THIS YEAR & FOCUS ON POSITIVE FORWARD STEPS NOW

If we want to be successful in life, there’s one big obstacle we all need to overcome. And that is perfectionism. You know the feeling. You’re always second-guessing yourself. Questioning every decision you make. Tweaking things just to make sure everything goes right. Mistakes are not an option for you. That’s why you always wait for the perfect scenario to happen before taking action.

You won’t start going to the gym until you have proper gym clothes to work out. You won’t start your business until everything is set in place. You won’t deliver that project until every detail has been taken care of. So what do you do instead? You procrastinate. You think you’re just being meticulous.

Thinking of yourself as a high achiever with high standards. Maybe by now, you’ve started to see the consequences. You spend so much time editing and tweaking things that...You never get things done. You’re always stressed. Feeling pressured. Thinking that if you don’t strive for perfection and manage the very last detail...

You’re going to do a bad job. And that ends up slowing you down. Your performance suffers because nothing’s ever good enough. And while others are taking action and making things happen in their lives...You’re still working on the same project you were doing six months ago. And when you finally manage to get something ready... It’s too late.

You were left behind. All because you were waiting for things to be "perfect". I think it’s clear by now why you shouldn’t be a perfectionist The real question is...How to stop being one?

What can you do to let go of perfectionism and start getting things done in your life? The answer is pretty straightforward .

You need to change your standards.

You’re not perfect %FIRSTNAME%, and neither is anybody else.

It will take you several tries and plenty of mistakes to make something right.

And if you don’t allow yourself to make these mistakes.

You’re stopping your own progress.

So stop holding yourself to an ideal that you’ll never reach.

Let go of those unrealistic standards.

And shift your focus from getting everything perfect...

To get things done, focus on getting something out the door as soon as possible.

Stop overanalyzing it and just get it done. Then ask for feedback from people who you trust.

From there, you’ll be able to improve from what you already have.

Embrace the fact that you’ll make mistakes and it’s through those mistakes that you’ll learn.

Let’s say you’re about to start writing your final graduation thesis. Most students have the idea that the first draft should be perfect. So they keep on working on it for weeks.

I was talking to a college professor friend of mine about that the other day. That’s what he said. What those students don’t know is that no first thesis draft survives contact with reality.

Nothing
that you do for the first time will ever be perfect. You will have to make edits. You will have to tweak things out. There’s just no way around it. Don’t be ashamed of your mistakes. It’s your first draft after all. Instead, inspire yourself to take action, make mistakes, ask for feedback, and improve.

Start doing that and I’ll be like a mental switch for your life. All that anxiety and stress will go away. All the negative emotions you were feeling will vanish. This time, you won’t be worried about getting something perfect. You won’t be walking in circles thinking about what you should do next. Because you’ll know the situation will never be perfect.

Instead, you’ll think about getting things done. No overthinking. Just taking action.
