She dreams bigger & vibes deeper about her passion for video making & her country Kenya, meet Simone Dominion!

Talented Simone based in Atlanta shares her passion for video making and her country, Kenya.
   1.       Hey, you have had a couple of alias on social media, which one do you stick with most often?
Ø  I personally love KINGSIMONE. I use ICONIC because most people in school call me an Icon.
  2.       Kindly introduce yourself.
Ø  My name is Simone Dominion. I’m 17 years and am Kenyan made.
  3.       How has life been since you left 254 for Atlanta?
Ø  A lot has changed, starting to make new friends and adapting to this kind of environment, I ain’t complaining though. The reason being I found opportunities here and meeting different people as well. I get to share my views and people will listen and they share theirs too. Unlike Kenya where most people keep things to themselves and mostly they always have this thing of someone wanting to steal their ideas. I mean as youths we need to wake and shun these thoughts.
4.       Has the culture differences and new experiences inspired your life in any way?
Ø  I have learnt to appreciate everyone the way they are. Culture difference is there and the best thing I can do is try to fit in. But aside from that, I live in an African home with African parents so most things are the same, same rules, and same roots until I walk out since I don’t see my parents changing anything especially my mama.
5.       You have a deep passion for art and philosophy, how has that impacted your outlook on life?
Ø  Well, everything in life for me is art. I love art because it takes me out of this world where I can put my imagination down and bring it up, for example most of my videos are original things I’ve created in my mind. About philosophy, I spend most of my leisure time on the internet catching up with the news and mostly am always on YouTube. I look up to motivation speakers like NICK, OPRAH, and MITCHELLE OBAMA most of their speeches are just awesome and from their stories I see myself. I also get to appreciate life, I have lived a life in poverty that most people see me now and thinks what I have has been there no, all these came after I lost my dad and its because our mom never left us. ( My siblings and I)
6.       What inspired your passion for video making?
Ø  I started making videos in 2016 and then I stopped after I joined college. And then when I moved to Atlanta I met my friend Kris whose dream is to become a film director and video editor. So having this information, I thought I would be of help teaching her what I already know and she can advance from there. So far so good things are looking up for her, and I’m happy that what I do inspire people. Mind you I have never been to any film school all this is self-taught.

7.       What are your other hobbies and interests?
Ø  My hobbies include reading books, editing pictures and making videos
8.       Do you reckon that there is adequate exposure, knowledge and appreciation of African history and culture by the African community in Atlanta?
I believe that Africans are appreciated now all over America compared to how things were before.  Right now people are eager to know a lot about the African culture and history. I have most of my friends reading African stories, I can’t complain because it’s a two way thing as much as we want to know what’s happening in America they want to know what’s happening in Africa, and especially the African fashion whites love it, even more after the premiering of the BLACK PANTHER.

9.       Are you involved in any community projects in Atlanta on weekends or holidays?
Ø  I’m currently doing a course on C.P.R and first aid and one of the activities needed to qualify is community work. So I spend most of my Wednesdays and Saturdays in children hospitals.
10.   What’s your ordinary or normal weekend like in Atlanta?
Ø  I spend most of my weekends hanging out with friends doing photo-shoots or doing a charity activity.
11.   The black lives matter movement does it resonate much with the circumstances on the ground in Atlanta?
Ø  Totally, it has made more people open minded and especially us youths. Recently a white kid shot his classmate, and youths organized a protest and no one touched anyone. This has brought so many activists to life.

12.   You have an apparent appreciation for fashion, what’s your fashion statement?
I am honestly not a fashion person; I have learnt to work with what I have and I dress as long as am comfortable.
13.   What’s your dream, your travel destination anywhere in Africa?
Ø  My dream is to live in a corrupt free Kenya.
Ø  I want to go to Mauritius.
14.   What’s your parting shot?
Ø  I can say that everything happen for a reason and in Gods appointed time. Believe in yourself, work hard as much as you can and never settle for less than you deserve.
