Makena, the humble and talented 9 year old Kenyan singer has been
nominated for the South Africa based Africa Children of the Year Awards under
the Arts and Culture category. The awards organized by the Stacey Fru Foundation https://staceyfrufoundation.org.za/children-awards/ recognizes
talent among children and the positive impact that children create through
their gifts in various communities across Africa. The young voice of BMK Makena
has been a gift shared to all her audiences, and her song, Kana Ni Kega, a
vernacular song from Tharaka Community in Kenya meaning, “child is good or
rather a child is a gift” embraces child care and good upbringing of children in terms of morals for prosperity of future
generations and exemplifies African art and culture and appreciation for the
African child.
The young talent in grade 4 at Kings school Nairobi, is
destined for greatness and has received great support for her music from her
friends, family, fellow choir singers at Gregory Choir in St Mary Umoja Parish
and audiences with her music on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqGvgX8CHzibVvjKNat9USA being well received across Africa. However,
because of the COVID global pandemic the Award ceremonies is to be held
virtually on Saturday 7th November, as BMK Makena and other
nominated children shine on the Stacy Fru foundation, Africa Children of the
year, awards platform.
