- How would you introduce yourself?
My name is Kelvin Nzuki. My
stage name is Dj KBoy. I love music and deejaying. The whole process involved
in production of music till the end product fascinates me. Seeing people dance
as i deejay gives me the drive to deejay even more.
2.How long have you been deejaying professionally?
I started deejaying back in
2012 but went professional mid 2015. So it's around 3 years now.
3. What inspired your passion for deejaying?
I had a passion for music and
art but i didn't have the voice to get into singing. So i had to look for a way
to be in close touch with music and art hence i got into deejaying and i can
say that was a decision i will always be proud of myself for making.
4. What's your most
favourite music genres?
I love good music. Music with
a message and a purpose. But sometimes reggae and hiphop gets a pinch of me
better than the other genres.
5. What's the challenges
you have faced thus far as a dj?
Deejaying just like any other
profession has its own challenges. Job opportunities aren't as available as
much and employers always want to keep on working with the same people not
giving others a chance to prove themselves. Also this notion about deejays
being a certain type of people doesn't make it true despite people repeating it
over and over again.
6. What are your aspirations for the next 3 years?
I want to start my own
entertainment company with time. I also want to get into music production and
radio programming as a whole. I genuinely want to grow as a person and as a
brand.
7. How can you be reached on social media?
So people
can get me on Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube @DeejayKBoy
8. Do you look up to any other local or international
deejays for inspiration & mentorship?
I look up to alot of Kenyan
deejays who have already made it in the industry and others who are actually
doing well but don't get the recognition they deserve but it's all in time.
Internationally i really look up to Dj Jazzy Jeff, this guy is a legend and
he's always surprising with new stuff, a great motivation for me.
9. Do you reckon the Kenyan entertainment industry has
reached it's potential yet?
The kenyan entertainment industry is far away from achieving its full
potential yet. But over the few years we've actually grown from where we used
to be. With new producers and musicians getting into the limelight bringing in
new grooves and taste to the industry. With also the rise of groups and bands
new things have been established and accepted by the fans. So i can say so far
so good but we have a long way to go but i know we can do it.
10. What's your parting shot & advice to Kenyan youth in
entertainment industry?
The Kenyan industry right now is all about
realizing who you are and what it is you really want t achieve in whatever
field you are in. So if you want to join or you are already in the industry you
got to be yourself and not succumb
Thank you.
